The air ride is purchased and is on its way.

Rally, thanks for showing me that coupon BTW. It still worked even 2 days into July.

Keep us up to date with how you progress.

I'm a little bit tempted myself.

I will let you all know how it goes. I'm not one for full build threads/how-to's/etc, but I will keep it as thorough as possible. Hopefully nothing breaks...

All I know is that I'm ready to have my car back. It has been out of commission for over a month. I previously had BC coilovers (with the extreme drop kit) that decided it'd be fun to snap the piston rod in half while I was taking a corner. Thankfully I was able to get home before it completely failed.

Figured That's part of the problem with MINI rears. The rear suspension arc starts putting side load on a part that was never intended for side load. A lot of the race guys shear them too.

You should consider keeping those BC upper mounts for your bags if you don't sell the coilovers off.

Hey Rally/anyone else who has run air in the car:

Where are good locations to run wire through the firewall?

Also, what's the best/most reliable way to make it power on the with car?

You're probably not going to have any luck having it power up with the car on a second gen. I gave up after searching for hours. So many of the accessories on the second gen continue to get power 10-30 minutes after the car was turned off. It's a new thing BMW does with all of their cars now. I quit after trying numerous fuses and accessories...I just threw in a switch.

There's a pass through in the firewall on the passenger side with a large rubber grommet that you can poke/cut a hole through it.

My old thread on the subject:

Even powering it to the ignition wouldn't work? (nevermind, just read your thread. Interesting). How would the switch work? Just turn it off every time you're about to get out of the car, I assume. Doesn't that get annoying?

Nope, never annoyed me too much. It's no different than grabbing your keys or unbuckling your seat belt.

I'm sure there's a solution, but it's not as easy as tapping into the lighter like first gens or most cars.

Did you cut out an area and put the switch there? I went out to an auto parts store and bought a small switch that I think will work, but I'm having trouble finding ideas to mount it.
