Here's an ND shot... A big thunderstorm was approaching, and with the ND filter on, 60 second exposures were simple. And with a 10mm lens, there was a lot of sky in the frame. So, capturing a lightning strike was actually pretty easy.

After this experience, a less aggressive ND filter would work even better. Yeah, 30 second exposures wouldn't happen, but you could still easily get 5 second exposures, and the lightning would show up brighter. You'd just have to "spray and pray".
