I don't really know what to say other than this must have just been a stunt buy the police to make it look like they are actually doing somehting other than eating donuts all day.

Srry but if they were actually going 50 over... they deserved it. Hell, even 20 over and they were probably asking for trouble.

it wasnt like that at all adam. it was stunt pulled between the news station and the OPP. the organizers of the event had actually contacted the police and let them know what was going to go down. it was a charity cruise but local police and the news turned it into some type of crackdown.

Quote:
...In all 4 cars were pulled over, three received tickets for 121-123kph in a 90kph limit and one received a warning. They were caught just as the 400 turns into 11, where the limit goes from 100-90kph. One other individual was stopped for operating a radar detector (idiot) and had his equipment confiscated and received a fine.

I read the article too. As a group, they didn't deserve this, but if any unlawful actions where taking place, then I can understand the citations.

Probably the best thing that could be said. I just don't get why the OPP would do that if they knew it was going on. Unless there were problems with the run in past years.

If they broke the law, they broke the law. Man up and take your ticket. But I don't think that's what the article is about. It's focusing on the fact that it was staged. The OPP KNEW they were going to be there and set up a lame attempt at a sting, and then called in the media to make it a PR stunt. This is NOT what police forces should be concerning themselves with.

I'm sure a good enough lawyer could get the charges dropped, and maybe even some counter charges. That would be an eye for an eye IMO, but the whole thing smells.

I call SHENANIGANS!!

All the reports I've read have stated that those drivers who received tickets accept their mistake and acknowledge they were wrong to do so. It's the "staged sting" thing that is so pathetic about it...

I was supposed to be on this cruise...but bowed out due to circumstances...looking at the footage though, I most likely would have been one of the leaders and for sure one of the targeted MINI's...
Talking to some of the members, the police couldn't even tell them where they were speeding stating that the speed limit was 10km/hour less than what it actually was for the majority of the Hwy...
I've done this run for the past four years and there has been absolutely ZERO concern shown to us by ANYONE living or policing the area. This whole thing has RED FLAGS all over it and smells worse than a jock left to bake in the Arizona Sun!
Funny how the part they didn't show was the Police Officer dashing out onto the HWY to start the flagging down of these guys...there is so much wrong with the whole situation I can't even get my thoughts in order...even a week after it happened!!!

I, too, was supposed to be on that cruise. Never an incident in previous years. Apparently, in addition to the lame tactic pulled by the OPP, there were cruisers present at every step of the journey -- again, because the club was responsible enough to let them know their route beforehand.

Lame, just lame.

Ah, I only read the first bit where they said they were going 50 over.
