Default Sept 6th - LA Area Street Legal Road Rally

If you have ever wanted to do a road rally, come out and try a time-speed-distance rally with the Santa Monica Sports Car Club. They have put on more than 450 rallys in the time they have been around, more than any other club in America I am told.

Every first Friday night of the month they do a short rally. (nicknamed 'FFN') They are approximately 2 hour TSD road rallys which almost always ends at a pizza joint where prizes and "zero" bucks are handed out.

There are no incentives to speed or do anything unsafe or illegal, this is all about precision driving and navigating. Every car has the opportunity to show up exactly on time to the checkpoints without doing anything unsafe. Any mistakes on one section cannot be made up by driving faster on the next stage.

a short, fun TSD night rally through the eastern Santa Monica Mountains that will take place on Friday, September 6th. I'd love to see a great MINI turnout! Go to http://www.smscc.org for details, or let me know if you have any questions.

Please reply to the thread if you are coming just so we don't overwhelm the start and have a rough idea of cars coming. We normally have between 8 and 15 cars, but I am posting to get the word out and we could have a lot of MINI's.

There are four categories:
A Unlimited experience, unlimited equipment

B Unlimited experience; unlimited distance measuring, timing and calculating devices, but no more than 2 may be interconnected.

C Unlimited experience, unlimited stand-alone timing equipment,
and either of the following but not both:
1) unlimited distance-measuring equipment, but no cumulative calculators,
Or
2) stock odometer, but unlimited calculating devices.

D A beginner class no person in the vehicle has competed in ten or more Navigational (Time-Speed-Distance) rallies, nor has won more than three Navigational (Time-Speed-Distance) rally trophies. The Class C equipment limitations also apply.

Full Details here:
http://ffn.smscc.org/

Cost: $15 plus weekend membership if not a member of SCCA (see here for details http://www.smscc.org/Weekend_Membership.html

Any car or truck can do this rally, it's about precision following directions and driving. We usually have an AC Cobra, one or two Porsches, SUV's, and mini-vans and of course a few MINIs!

Starting Location:
The Bank of America rear parking lot, on Devonshire St., just east of Sepulveda Blvd., in Mission Hills (North San Fernando Valley), 1/2 mile east of Interstate 405; use the Devonshire St. exit [Exit 70]. From Orange County or Downtown L.A., take Interstate 5 North to California 118 West [Exit 156A]; exit at Sepulveda Blvd [Exit 42A], turn left, go 1/2 mile south, go left at Devonshire, then go left into the 2nd driveway on your left.

Ending Location:
Always changes but will be somewhere in East Santa Monica Mountain area this time (Sept 6)

Let's make a big MINI presence !!
