Thumbs down censorship

I understand where he is coming from, and don't think he is being unreasonable at all. It's his house, his rules.
I just don't like it and I think it's sad that people can't handle it. I do like the idea of each member having the ability to turn on their own filter. Just my humble opinion. I'm sure the Bush administration would be happy though.

Bush administration?? Your country went blue last week...keep politics out, and take it the way it is without this..."I'm sure the Bush administration would be happy though."...please.

I wasn't trying to be political by bringing up the FCC. I know of another forum that I used to be a part of quoted the reason for a language filter was FCC regs.

But the real reason of trying to bring sponsors in is a great idea. Hopefully it will take myoo to another level.

I agree with you, man. Bringing politics into it, I'm a registered Libertarian, so I see where you're coming from completely. However, as an adult, I also see where idealism and practicality come into play. Ideally, yes, I would love it if I could leave the filter off and trust people to only use profanity when it's really necessary to put their point across. In practice though, people throw profanity around like 4th graders pretty often, which can get annoying and possibly turn people (member and vendor alike) away from our forums.

Finding the balance is difficult, no doubt. If you can find me a plug-in for vBulletin that allows people to control whether they see profanity or not, on a per-user basis, I would be open to considering it for installation on our forums.

I like a clean board personally, I'm sure that I have probably said things on here that I shouldn't have but all in all I think that a public forum like this needs censorship. I agree that as it grows, it would be better when courting sponsors, and as a parent with a 7 year old MINI enthusiest that likes to surf dad's "mini.coms" as he calls them, he could certainly sound out an F bomb if he saw it. I can see the letter from school now, "I saw that word on my dad's computer.

I don't think we have to isolate our children from F-words. I think we just need to teach them to use them properly. AND NO I DON'T HAVE KIDS.

Right, and from what I've seen over the last couple of years on this and the previous forum, a few people here aren't well-suited to teaching kids when it's proper to drop an F-bomb.

Hey Mr. Jekyll would probably want the board to sponsered by a Christian organization then. (get it?)
