its just hard because every car community out there has "the mod" that you'd be crazy not to do (like our reduction pulley) which though hard to find in the rules, almost always screws you pretty bad when it comes to SCCA classing. like every turbo guy that puts a blow-off valve on his car... bam, instant street mod.

yeah i figured that either you have to go to the extremes of each class... like stay bone stock, or just go full street

"13.3 E. No racing tire or recap (on any casing) may be used."

Dave, are u 100% sure you can use race tires in the stock class? and if yes, what race tires are there that are out other than the Hoosier A6 and Kumho V710 that fit on the stock wheel? I tried looking up at tirerack.com but no Track and Competition DOT tires came up for any tire size for the stock Mini Cooper, S, and both choices for different tire sizes.

I guess it depends a bit on what you term "race" tire, but clearly the Hoosier A6 and Kumho V710 are not "street" tires.

Hankook also makes an autocross tire that is competitive in the stock classes (I forget the name).

Those are the three manufactureres that I'm aware of.

nope, "s" models go straight to STX.

for coopers its HS, STS, STX, DSP, SM
for cooper s's its GS, STX, DSP, SM

pulleys are instant SM marks, so (technically) are any intakes that remove/alter the cowl wall. engine dampers are also SM specific... there are a few others. even most STBs will soon be non STS/STX legal...

note to all first timers:
just finish the course correctly the first few times. having a way slow score is better than having no official score at all...

oh, and have fun

Ask questions, and listen to the answers.

Get rides in as many other people's cars as you can (assuming that is allowed at the event you are attending).

Get other people to ride in your car as you drive. Let someone else drive your car while you ride in it. Again, all assuming the event allows that.

1st goal: clean run. Then worry about going faster.

Bring water, sunscreen, and rain gear - no matter what the forecast says.

Thanks for all the tips,
I didn't end up running today, but I did go out and get a feel for the environment.
I asked tons of questions...and still have alot of stuff I want to know about. There were some pretty cool guys and gals out there. I wanted to take picks, but it was raining the whole time... that kinda sucked...

If you know where I could get a helmet, that isn't too crazy expensive that would be awesome.

Thanks again
