Default Chapter 2, Sad Arthur Chases the Touge

So here we are, back in Cali, and out on Sears Point with the big dogs. Do we hold our own? We do. However, as we are doing the Turn 11 exercise, part autocross, part prep for taking the awesome Turn 11 at speed, one of the instructors says to me, "You know, you're unloading that inside wheel in the tight turn and as entertaining as it is for the spectators to watch you fill your wheel well with smoke, you're not really going anywhere. You could probably do with a limited slip differential. Does MINI offer one?" Well no, in October of 2003, they did not.

Later, looking for my fix, having been inoculated with HP + Asphalt at Sears Point, I tackled the little two lanes that run like veins over the arms of the East Bay hills. Sure enough, along with understeer comes the unloading and spinning of the inside wheel. Damn! But that doesn't stop me and Sad Arthur from chasing the togue all over the East Bay hills and then into the Santa Cruz Mountains. It does, however, cause me to attack the boards and miniusa.com with demands for a factory LSD (Quaife offered one at that time but it was $2K and voided warranty, no thanks.)

Time passes. Personal chasing of the togue has evolved at this point into the Death Run Series. Tiring of the drive 'n' dine, show 'n' shine proclivities of many of my MINI companions, I have enlisted a couple of like thinking individuals to throw away any semblance of restraint and join me for a run at speed down through Bear Valley, across the Salinas Valley to Fort Hunter Ligget, through the Los Padres National Forest and back out onto CA 1 at Lucia, just south of Big Sur. This is Death Run 2004.

Hahahah nice! We do these often, but we try to keep them hush-hush. It's been awhile for me though, thanks to my evil vibration issues. Hopefully I'll have those resolved in the next few weeks, just in time for the tarmac to finally dry off and warm up.

I'm actually the ambassador plenipotentiary for the People's Republic of Berkeley and would be most happy to welcome you here at the Embassy. Please inform my assistant of your arrival date to be sure I'm not off on a track day junket when you arrive.

Great pictures.

It would be an adventure to arrange a few runs from all of the areas - to meet at next years AMVIV.

Yes, taking a few extra days to get there could be fun/
