Talking I just bought an Astro Black R56 today

I've been talking about buying a Mini for years now, but I only just started looking in earnest the last few months. On Friday, I was walking home from work and I passed this perfect Astro Black 2007 Cooper S sitting on a VW lot. I was smitten but I hadn't planned on pulling the trigger just yet. Well it infected my brain and I went to check it out today and ended up buying it.

The black plastic fenders are painted, it has an Aero kit, drilled slotted rotors, a JCW strut tower brace, a K&N cold air intake, and the turbo makes a suspiciously loud, evil noise, but the dealer couldn't tell me if it was custom, and I was afraid to ask, lest I look too eager. The engine bay is flawlessly clean, the interior is like new.

There are a few issues, which I don't mind too much. The scoop is warped from the turbo, but that's very common from what I've heard. So I've already ordered an M7 Vortex 2 carbon fiber scoop to replace it. And the interior silver trim on the dash and doors is that wavy silver checker patter that has to go, and fast. I think piano black or carbon fiber is the way to go. Do you guys have any experience replacing those parts or painting them?

And finally I Photoshopped on top of the Mini builder to make a mockup of what I've got planned for this thing. I'm thinking coilovers, though I don't know which kind yet, that hood scoop with carbon fiber mirrors to match, black headlights and surrounds eventually, and maybe M7 grilles. I'm torn on the grilles and driving lamps though. And I'm still trying to decide on rims. I love BBS RSes, Work Meisters, CCW Classics, and a variety of others. Black would be cool but gold or bronze could be sweet too. What do you guys think?

Anyway, I'm thrilled to join your ranks, folks.

Welcome and congrats! You got a good deal! I believe the 07s come stock w fog lamps? You could follow the JDM style and just run the fogs 24/7 and save some cash. However, your mock up is truly unique and that says a lot as well.

Hello and welcome...
I prefer the clean look, so I wouldn't go with the additional fog's....
I think the black rims are OK but kind of played out.... the wheels need some contrast in there or else they become just a big black hole with the black tire.... This is only my opinion, and I have been wrong before....

The chrome belt line would tie in with chrome wheel lips....

Astro black is a great color...

Good looking car! I'd stick with some of the chrome and silver, but that's just me. Driving lights are cool, but I feel there are better ways to spend that money on these cars. Those are some of the better MINI wheels, so if you switch it up you should be able to sell them for a decent amount. Welcome, and congrats on the new car.

I cringed when I saw the first picture of the splitter and the curb...

Yeah the splitter is still okay because it's on stock suspension for now. And I think you guys are right about the lights. It's cool to experiment in the builder, but I doubt I'll go with them. I just don't know how the Mini community thinks of them. And although I did black rims, I agree they're kind of played out. I might go for silver or gold/bronze. I just want to do something different. I'm not going for a murdered-out look or anything. Thanks for all the kind words guys. I'm excited to be here as something more than a lurker.

Welcome! I had a 2008 Astro Black Hardtop. Loved the color. Enjoy picking what you feel is best for your MINI.

Do yourself a favor and check your oil level at least every third fill up . Some of the earlier turbo cars burn a quart of oil or more in 1,000 miles . Better safe than sorry !

Oh sweet. That's a good tip. But as long as I keep it topped up, it's almost like the car is doing its own oil changes over time. It's a feature!

With regards to driving lights I noticed you are thinking of going with the M7 metal grills. If so perhaps you can do what I did which was to mount a pair of PIAA 1500 driving lamps in the lower grill area. You wont have to worry about melting the stock grills if you make the switch.
