Default Introduction #2: Banned from NAM

So, I already introduced myself, but haven't posted much yet. However, I just learned that I've been banned from NAM. Well, not really banned, but they bocked an IP address I used to use a lot. I do not know what caused it, and am getting zero response when I ask the "webmaster". I feel like nothing I've posted lately even crossed the line, although there have been a few posts over the years...

But not only did they block the IP address, they deleted every single post I ever made. I think I was pushing 4k, having joined in 2002. There were a bunch of how-tos and informational threads as well as some pretty funny stuff, if I do say so myself. But now it's all gone. Every last word. I would be fine not being able to post there any longer, but to delete it all! That's beyond cold.

Anyway... It was just a bit depressing to discover what I thought was a relatively democratic online community is really run by a repressive totalitarian regime that rewrites history to serve it's purposes.

hahah wait....you dont think you ever crossed any lines?

When someone asked what wheels kalbone was running you simply responded "they are absurd"

Posts like that may come off as a little dick (crossing the line)....just a thought though

welcome over to M|U It's a good place to be

That's pretty heavy-handed, but not surprising given their stated rules & past practices. No point in commenting on what may have gotten you banned, but a little courtesy goes along way. It's pretty easy to write something that comes off as rude or offensive and mash that send key. This is a better place to hang anyway (IMO).

BTW, the way they go about banning somebody is a little Orwellian isn't it?

YOU MAY NOT BE BANNED.

This has happened to me several times. I'm not sure of the technology, but apparently there are some spammers (and/or offenders) that may 'share' a range of IP addresses. I think the folks at NAM just block that range. You just got caught in the middle of it all.

Keep bugging Mark or have somebody post in your behalf. They'll clear it up.

Personally, I hardly get over there any more.

I've only been on this board for a few days, but already I've experienced a much warmer welcome and nicer people here than I ever have on NAM. I think I'll be on here until they decide to kick me out!

To comment briefly on this:

xalfa has a long history of not playing well with others. He's been contacted regarding the site guidelines in the past and continued to post with a lack of respect for other members, intentionally stirring the pot and posting agressively toword other members on the forum. He was issued a strike in June as part of our two stikes system, and has been contacted on other occasions. As is the case with all members that have been issued a strike, there is a periodic review of their posting. In completing that review last week it was clear xalfa's posting style had not materially changed, and the same issues with not playing well with others continued. So yes, he was banned from NAM.

Thanks for clearing it up a bit Dave!

Anyway... I don't remember seeing your posts on NAM but I don't get over there much so it's no surprise. I must say that we're a bit more laid back in most respects so you may fit in very well here. Just try to be nice and contribute to making the site a better place for everyone and we'll all be very happy to have you here. We don't want someone that does nothing but criticize though, so keep in mind that we're probably going to be more sensitive to the overall tone of your posts on here based on your online history over there.

That said, we are also aware that sarcasm and dry humor don't always come across well posting online. Make yourself at home and be sure to make others feel at home and we'll all be happy to have you here with us
