Unhappy Sad Day - Bailey's English Lady 1994 -2009

Our old Springer Spaniel Bailey went to see her brother and sister today. She's been a great friend and companion to us for 14+ years now. We've known for a while now that this day was coming, but it never makes any easier. When I dropped in to check on her at lunch today I knew it was time. I called back in to work and let them know I had more important things to attend to.

Just thought I'd post a few old pics I was going through tonight.

Bailey always gave us a smile when we got home. It started like this...

And ended with a full body wag and teeth! It was just something she started doing when she was little and we cracked up and egged her on.

Thick as thieves since the beginning...Bailey and Sophie were always best buds. Sophie (6 this month) is taking it better than I expected. Click the image to open in full size.

Man these little guys can tug at your heartstrings!

Man, I shudder to think that this will happen to us some day with our Rosie. Totally feeling for you tonight.

Very sad.
Do dogs know how much joy they bring into our lifes. I can see that Bailey did more then her share in your home. In turn, one can see that your home gave her a blessed life.

Thanks everyone. She was truely a unique dog.

She had a little bout with cancer when she was 5. We had to take her to UT Knoxville to have a section of her lower jaw removed. Never seemed to bother her one bit. Still ate hard food up until yesterday. Aside from a little more drool, she never missed a beat. Most people never knew she was missing teeth. You can see in the 3rd pic, that her tung just flopped to that side as there were no teeth to hold it in.

Default They're our angels...

We've been kinda taught to think that angels look down on us, but instead I think they look up to us- as dogs. I have a Bailey as well, she's a Brittany and my best bud, running neck and neck with the wife as best buds depending on what day it is. My heartfelt condolences go out to you and others who share in your sadness. But as I have said before here, we will see them all again on the other side. Bailey still loves you back. God bless.

For some reason the wife left for her business trip last week on a mission to find us a new Springer Spaniel. Even though "we" had already decided it would be a good idea to wait a bit before we got another dog. We also had no clue that this was going to be Bailey's last week. Tuesday she asks me to transfer some $ into the checking account. At this time Bailey was doing as ok as I'd expect for her age. Jenn about died when I called her at lunch on Friday. So it's been a weekend of mixed emotions as we buried Bailey and welcomed Ava-Bel the family. Man she looks like Bailey did as a pup and has a good bit of her personality. I'll post some pics as we have more time to play with her. One friend leaves as one new one comes into our lives. It sure is strange that way some times.

Damn dude - sorry to hear about Baily and totally understand the effect of the loss having done similar not too long ago. And I can relate to the new pup situation - Ben came home with us well before I ever anticipated getting another pooch but he is proving to be a loving and fantastic pup. He's not Buck (although he possesses some freakishly similar traits), but a new chapter in the Aussie life at our casa. Hope Ava-Bel provides the same for you.

I have written big posts on this before, but I will just say I am sorry to hear that and I know how painful that can be.

I too had to choose when I thought it was best, and that does, in time, offer some small comfort.

Every time I hear this though, I do shed a few tears for my own beloved pet.

So sorry to hear. It's tough to lose a family member like this. I've been there.
