Default My MINI (chipgrafx), part 2

Allow myself to reintroduce myself...
uhh... I mean my MINI (again). (Part 1 can be found here.)

Why a second thread for my MINI you say? Well let me tell you...

Back on Sunday January 7th, 2007 a small group of us were on a spirited drive into the east county for lunch as well as to show Jerry around our canyon and mountain roads. The day started out well enough, no clouds and lots of sun. As we got into the mountains it was starting to get pretty windy (gusts as high as 65 mph) but our cars were able to handle it. We made a quick and cold stop to check out some views and then got back on the road.

Things were going well enough until about 1pm when I reached this decreasing radius turn and didn't quite make it through...

Scarey? Yes. Car damage? Yes. Personal injuries? No. My wife was in the car with me but thankfully neither one of us was hurt. The airbags didn't even go off. This is how and where we ended up...

It wasn't as steep as the photo makes it look. Where we left the road is obviously above my car and where the photo was taken from was about level with where we came to a stop.

When we went off the road we hit a post for a barbed-wire fence, bounced off a few rocks and stumps, plowed over a bunch of small bushes and then came to rest against a small tree and straddling a log. The area burned a few years ago and most of the trees had died so they were removed, thankfully for us.

I think the most painful part of the day, aside from the emotional stress my wife and I went through, was watching my car being pulled back up the hill by the tow truck...

Once back on the tarmac we were able to see the full extent of the damage to the front of the car...

The underside was a whole different story. Turns out there were some large dents, lots of scrapes and gouges and the rear suspension was pretty badly damaged.

Jump ahead 6 1/2 weeks to Wednesday February 28th and I am finally picking my car up from the body shop... with a few little changes. Prior to the crash my car was astro black with a silver roof...

While my car was in the shop I was told that nearly the entire car had to be repainted with the exception of the roof. With this information I figured if I ever wanted to change the color of my MINI, now was the time. I gave serious thought to having my car painted flat black. After discussing this with the body shop I decided against the flat paint. (If you want the reasoning, just ask.) I figured the next best thing would be black... all jet black... including the roof. So here we are now...

w00t. Glad to see you back at the gathering in the twin.

I can't decide if it's more or less of a twin now though... it's not astro black but it is all black now.
