Default The Scirocco

Starting a thread for my Scirocco:

It all began here: http://www.motoringunderground.com/f...ghlight=dubber

and now I'm at this point. Met a guy with a 16V MKII GLI and he was giving me some pointers on the car. I mentioned that I had seen some BBS RA's and that I would like to put those on the car. He happened to have a set and offered to sell them to me, until he saw Kelli's old Maxxis tires for her Konig Remembers. Said he would trade me straight across and I jumped on that deal. So longer lug nuts and 15mm spacers for the rear from parts4vws, some new tires, and some carbon fiber center caps from Tire Rack and this is how it is sitting:

It is a big improvement in looks. I also have some black lug nut caps on the way to finish it off. Unfortunately I have rubbing going on. Mike at parts4vws says this setup should work so I might have suspension issues. The fronts sit pretty low, but the backs rub too. I tried to find a tire with more stretch, but I could only find 15's at 195. So it looks like a new suspension setup will be next

Thanks Tuls. This is my third one, but I never had a 16V before. I should be getting my Bilstein Sport suspension tomorrow. It looked like it had some struts that were made for stock height and the springs had been cut . I've got all new struts, springs, and the needed bushings going in so it should fix it right up. Once i get those on, the big things will be done and I can start concentrating on the little details

That is gonna be a fun project, for sure. One of my best friends back in the 80's had a dark grey one. His folks were loaded, he was way spoiled, so he had that and an 86 Vette....both new. He wrecked the Vette 3 months later and his folks refused to replace it, so he pretty much only drove the Rocco, which I LOVED.

Again, nice red addition to your red collection

Ya VDUB in da haus!

Good Mini friend of mine (Phil) has a Corado as his second ride.

Is that your house in the back? Really unique man.

Cannot wait to see how the ride comes along.

and a complete Bilstein sport suspension set-up.

I also got new rear poly shock bushings and bump-stops, and new front shock mounts, washers, and sleeves. I'm still waiting for the H&R springs to get here though. Hopefully I'll get them before the weekend and then I can get this done.

Yeah, that's my house. It is pretty unusual. It is called a monolithic dome home. There are more pics here:

Thanks Jon, I really don't know how Thom was driving it. Especially on that canyon run we did

Dude, does your house have any flat walls inside then? Or are they all curved like the outside? Sorry to muddy up the Roocco's thread but I have to ask...

They are pretty much all rounded. Each room is a dome and the house has 9 Domes that are all connected. As far as we can figure, it was the first built as a home. Here is a website that has a lot of info about what it is:

Alright, Bilsteins are on:

Before:

After:

I need to go and drop the rear another notch sometime, but the ride is so much better now. The suspension that was on it wasn't even for a Scirocco. It had spriings that were from another car and the wrong struts. I had to make a dash to the junk yard to get the right spring seats for the front. No wonder it was having problems. The rubbing is almost eliminated, but it has happened a couple of times on hard cornering. I may need to do a little dremel work, but it is no where near as bad as it was. This car is now completely road ready and fun to drive. I even found a nice rear spoiler when I was at the junk yard since the old one was very dry rotted and had red over-spray on it.
