I was going to say, couldn't you just make one out of Steel that would be a fraction of the price as well as significantly more durable and much faster to receive (craft)?

Snip's 01-07-2014 04:55 PM

That is my plan..... And it won't be $1,600 (in 2011 pricing)..... Sheesh...

Lukifer 01-07-2014 05:24 PM

I was going to say the same thing. now make them and sell them for $1000.

Other than just telling them when they call you that you just made a piece to fix the machine for 1/4 the price in less time than it took for them to call you back, do you even still want/need the OEM Piece?

well done btw

At this point no.... I don't need the OEM part.... I had no clue what their price was going to be... I was prepared to spend around $1,000 or so if it was in stock.... Since that wasn't the case, they pretty much pushed me in this direction.... So I'm satisfied with the outcome....

I am truly envious of your skills. I aspire to weld like that. One of these days when I'm not running around at 1000mph every day, I'll get in a welding class and start working on it. Until then, I'll just enjoy the metal art you present.

We are getting quite a bit of snow here in Columbus..... But still managed to spend a little time at the shop this morning...
Had to work on a bunch of price quotes... Things have been pretty hectic at work lately.... But that's good...

Took a little break and went out in the shop and did some work on one of my MINI projects...

Working on mounting a set of Hella lights in place of the OEM fog lights.... These are 5-3/4" versus the small 4" from the factory....

I need to make some light mounts that will allow fine tuning the light pattern, so I finished the two front frames made from 1/8" T304 stainless steel... These will have screws / springs for beam alignment...

Love quality builds/upgrades like this. I wish I had access to machinery and equipment to do things of this caliber.

Making progress with the mount... Ordered bits and pieces that will allow me to aim the beam properly...

Also did some test fitting to make sure I have all the room behind the bumper that I need.... Looks OK at this point... That washer bottle had me concerned, but I think I'm OK...
