so am I nuts or is the vertical rod on the left side of the car a "here is where the car ends" rod so that lip stays in one piece in the pits/trailer. I would think that would be removable for racing if it is.

::edit:::
are those buckles between the lip/body?

I am pretty sure that the buckles hold the lip to the body panel but i am not sure about the post on the lip.
