Default My OEM+ R53 Cooper S

Hi all,

The mission

After six dubs in five years a new job meant I needed a car that was tuneable, made a good noise, could 20k miles a year without being followed by a fuel tanker and had a good community. After driving everything from GTI's to Clio 197's to Type R's I made up my mind, a Cooper S was the way forward.

The car

After an epic 950 mile Glasgow to Canterbury round trip I picked up my first MINI in February '09.

The spec was:

- April '06 MCS in Dark Silver with 6220 miles
- Chili pack
- LSD
- 17 inch bullets
- Chrome line interior
- Chrome line exterior
- Anthracite trim
- Armrest
- Parking sensors

Initially I only wanted a decent facelift car. After looking more I knew it had to be dark silver with a LSD and low mileage. Expensive hobby this!

Update 1

The first thing to do before getting the mods underway was a dyno run which I did in May. Totally stock he pulled 172.8hp and 137.6 lb/ft @ the crank with a 15.5% DTL which I was pretty happy with.

In June the first round of mods were carried out courtesy of Fomsport (haggis) and Ebay. A balancing act given that the modding bug had well and truely bitten but the car was still under warranty.

The goodies:

- GP intercooler
- GP airbox (deflapped)
- GP exhaust
- JCW carbon mirror covers
- JCW carbon bonnet scoop
- JCW carbon boot handle
- M7 top and middle grilles

Obviously this didn't gain substantial power but the car felt much more eager and sounded brilliant.

Update 2

After much deliberating I finally picked my new wheels - anthracite OZ ultraleggeras.

This is set five in four months. My bullets, R90's, s-spokes and RZ's are now all sold to fund the modding habit. Once a veedubber always a wheel whore

Update 3

Having bought and sold more parts than was strictly necessary I could finally carry out the next stage to add some more power and kill the wheelgap.

The goodies:

- M7 16% pulley
- JCW spark plugs
- ITG filter
- M7 -35mm springs
- Koni yellow adjustable dampers
- M7 stubby ariel

Thanks all

I'm hoping it'll drop a little more as the springs settle in over the next few weeks. Its as low as I can go without coils, already grounding out when driving vigorously on country roads as James will testify

Some seriously nice cars on here guys, plenty of inspiration to be had methinks.

Future plans in no particular order:

- JCW brakes
- JCW seats
- Manifold and sports cat
- Newman cam
- Custom remap
- Head unit
- Fit my JCW injectors

i think it's looking pretty good right now. mebbe the headlight rings and/or a joey mod?

if anything i would suggest dechroming via bodycolor; not black or plastidip.

I like the idea of a full dechroming with that car. You've got the body color roof, and basically body colored wheels, you might as well go the distance and body color everything IMO

Definitely vote for headlight rings and Joey mod for starters on blackout. That's a sexy color and you can't go too wrong with blacking out.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I think the options are probably:

1) Full mad Max dechrome in black

2) Keep the chrome and Joey mod the lights

3) Dechrome the belt line and colour code the lights, filler cap, etc

Blackout beltline. Body color most everything else. With some subtle black details ( like the S on the side vents, etc)
