Default Reminisce TMMZ

We've come a long way and created a bunch of solid friendships. I've been having a blast looking back at the pics from the early years and I figured it'd be great to check out some of the old school stuff from our humble beginnings.

Unfortunately my HD crashed so I'm lacking in TMMZ stuff

I've always wondered what the origins of TMMZ were, how did it form?

I don't know the full story as I stumbled upon them a little while after they started up. I know I followed JivanIvan (sp?) over from MCO cause he was talking about his NOS setup and I noticed his TMMZ stickers.

It started out as a mainly SoCal MINI club. I just ended up staying cause it was such a cool group of people.

Here's the description from the old myspace page:

Quote:
When one thinks of the new MINI Cooper produced by BMW, images of clever marketing and The Italian Job come to mind. For some, owning a MINI is a lifestyle, for others it's more.

Who are those others?

Let me introduce you to MIGHTYMINIZ, created in April 2002. Nearly a year later TEAMMIGHTYMINIZ was founded.

Originally, the TEAM concept was a collective of like minded MINI Enthusiasts who would rather participate in a motosport/show than "drive and dine" or park and show off who had the biggest stuffed animal. This concept evolved into a way of life - It's not the destination, it's the drive.

Despite being, unfairly, branded as "Hooligans and trouble-makers" for the first couple of years, the TEAM managed to capture the interest of the motorsports minded mini owners who were looking for an alternative to the other clubs and websites. This helped re-mold the image of the TEAM as a reliable source for technique and style.

Continuing to evolve, for those who are more track minded than some. Along with track day participation, coordination, and recreation, the TEAM offers their support to others who participate and are willing to learn safe driving technique. In cooperation with Redline TrackEvents, TEAMMIGHTYMINIZ held their first MINI COOPER Challenge on May 8th and 21st of 2005. These events opened the gateways for more track fun. They had seasoned professionals as well as fist day novices on the track for the challenge.

This led to the introduction of the TEAM to Speed Channel's, Street Tuner Challenge. Shooting footage for their season premier at the Challenge and inviting the Team out for more "action" footage for their second episode.

The motorsports division of TEAMMIGHTYMINIZ takes its root where many other professional drivers have gotten their start--the winding roads of Southern California's diverse mountain ranges. Driving has been at the heart of the TEAM since its inception, and countless spirited mountain drives have culminated into what is now a flourishing motorsports presence for the MINI at any given track day, from Buttonwillow to Streets of Willow, and beyond. As the many twisties of Southern California continue to draw more and more driving enthusiasts, the TEAM has moved to the more controlled environment of the race track, away from the drifting and Initial-D fanatics that have since swarmed the canyons, drawing ire from its residents and law enforcement alike.

With the MINI quickly becoming the weapon of choice in front-wheel-drive performance for autocross and track duty, TEAMMIGHTYMINIZ is at the forefront of tuning and driving technique, and hopes to continue in the footsteps of the grand motorsports legacy left behind by the Monte Carlo Rally dominating Works Mini Coopers of yesteryear.

Into 2006, the TEAM evolved further, returning to it's roots as MIGHTYMINIZ forming the base for which the TEAM's has settled into. The introduction of the NEW MIGHTYMINIZ came as a shock to many, by discarding the underground, dank and uninviting color scheme for the more inviting and user friendly colors. Building past the forum format and bringing subjects of interest to the front of the clubhouse.

A large group of people left TMMZ to start M|U for various reasons and TMMZ sorta faded into the past.

It evolved. There was a fair share of necessary "drama" the week I actually joined the TMMZ forum and the majority of the major members left to start this site and community.

*Looks at join date. It was November 2005.
